Journalism students 'don't read papers'

The journalists of the future are rapidly moving away from traditional news services, saying they are impractical compared to new media.

A survey of Australian journalism students found 90 per cent of students do not like reading the newspaper, preferring to source news from commercial television or online media.

Professor in Journalism and Media Studies at the Queensland University of Technology, Alan Knight, conducted the survey and says despite an aversion to newspapers, 95 per cent of students are very interested in following the news.

"At this stage commercial television is still the favoured source, but online is rising pretty rapidly," he said.

Professor Knight says it appears some of the smaller faults with the newspaper medium are deterring students from reading them.

"They said that newspapers are impractical, they fall apart, you have to buy them," he said.

Tossup on Future Print, But Relevant Today

A new survey of American readers by The Rosen Group, about the state of current and future media, found that nearly 80% of respondents still subscribe to magazines and 83% find that daily newspapers are still relevant. 45% though, of those surveyed, said that newspapers and magazines will exist in 10 years, while 40% were uncertain.

Stock Artists Alliance is accepting applications for a new Executive Director

Following the resignation of Betsy Reid the Stock Artists Alliance (SAA), a trade association dedicated to supporting and protecting the business interests of professional stock photographers worldwide, is accepting applications for a new Executive Director.

SAA supports its members through education and advocacy initiatives and is well-respected in the image licensing industry for its efforts on behalf of members and all professional photographers.
